2019-2020 Winter season
Welcome to KWA Guided Walks
A wonderful, holiday guided walking experience.
Hello, we’re Stan and Eve, a husband-wife cum business-partnership team. We never returned to the same place twice, until we discovered Tenerife, that is. We began walking in Northern Tenerife over twenty years ago and have returned every year since. The island still amazes us with its flora and fauna, temperate climate, the peacefulness of the paths and the outstanding and unforgettable views.. All this we would like to share with you.
To find out more, browse our internet pages. Feel free to skype- kwa.guiding or email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any concerns or if you would simply like to chat over the programme. If you are reasonably fit and content to ramble at a comfortable pace to enjoy a day’s walking, you are bound to fit in with our other walkers. We love this island and want to reveal its wonderful variety of landscape, its flora and some of its amazing history. Your non walking partner will be made welcome too and can join our weekly group dinner.
Puerto de la Cruz is the center for mountain walking in Tenerife, located on the north coast in the lush Orotava valley and only c.one hour’s drive by coach to the dramatic landscape of the Tenomountains(4,400ft) in the West, the many-ridged Anaga mountains(3,300ft.) in the east and the “moon-like” surface of the Teide National Park((12,000ft.) to the South. (Do look at the many pics. taken on our walks in Picture Gallery and other pages).
Walkers who have never been to Tenerife, will be pleased to know that Tenerife’s Winter weather (Nov.-March) can be compared to a pleasant Summer’s day in England for Walking. Average midday temperatures are c.21C. with a light sea breeze. Every six weeks we may have a wet day, but our 24 years experience usually enables us to find a spot that avoids wet conditions. Our cagoules get “wetted” about once or twice during the whole Winter season. The Tenerife National Park has 311 days of sunshine every year where the major concern is ensuring that you have sufficient protection from UV rays. We will suggest appropriate clothing for the day, based on the weather conditions expected and at the venue you make a decision. Some bring flip-flops to cool the feet on the journey back to the hotel. And then there’s the heated, outdoor swimming pool…
Once again, we have devised a walks programme, based on our extensive knowledge of the island and its weather patterns to provide you with the best walking experience. We will be walking in the four different areas over a three week period i.e. a cycle of 12 walks (four a week Sat/Mon/Wed/Thurs), but experience has taught us to use the walk best suited to the conditions on the day, so the order of the walks in the week may well change. This year we have some absolutely stunning new walks which we know you will enjoy.
Week One Friday 22nd.November Friday 17th.January Friday 14th..February
Week Two Friday 29th.November Friday 24th.January Friday 21st.February
Week Three Friday 7th.December Friday 31st.January Friday 28th.February
We have been asked by our regular walkers to mention KWA’s support of the CREVO home for children with cerebral palsy, which is located between Puerto and La Orotava, for the last two seasons. It’s non-residential and offers hydrotherapy, physiotherapy, speech therapy and basic learning skills for up to 18 children.
Funded by Local government 60%, the rest dependent upon donations. Our total to date is 2,100 euros which includes donations from the many walkers who also helped us support the Martha Dos Home for children with cerebral palsy from 2000 to 2015, which was located in Santa Cruz.
