What should I expect in a typical week?

A walk in Teide National Park

Groups meet, after breakfast, close to the hotels we recommend between 09.30 and 09.40, and board our own private coach with professional driver (No more waiting/queuing/standing on public buses). The journey to the start point takes about an hour and has been described by our walkers as "a treat in itself" with terrific coastal and/or mountain scenes. (If you have any problem with coach travel try some ginger tablets from a homeopathic shop in England before you come. They work without any side effects)

The walks start at any point between sea level and 7,000ft and are generally undulating rather than stiff climbs/descents. However you can expect, on occasions, to ascend and/or descend around 2,000 ft (rarely 3,000 ft). The higher altitude walks tend to involve less ascending/descending.

All walks last between 4-5 hours, with stops and we return you to Puerto around 5.00-5.30pm in time to swim in your hotel pool or to shop, etc. (Shops open 9-1 and 4-7/8pm) If you are B/B or S/C there is a huge variety of very reasonably priced restaurants to choose from.

You will receive a programme of "things to do when you're not with us!" (These will be within a short walking distance of the hotels we mention or within a short bus/taxi ride.) and a list of recommended restaurants built up over the years from our personal preferences which have been endorsed by fellow walkers.

Also, there will be some optional evening events to consider.

Groups: we can tailor make a walking holiday for groups either more/less walking than usual and, if there are a minimum of ten non walkers we can arrange excursions whilst the walkers are out but the times will be similar to the walking groups.

There are four main walking areas, each described briefly below. If you book for three weeks you will visit the same area again but the walk will be very different. If you arrive on Friday the first walk will be Saturday; if you arrive on Tuesday the first walk will be Wednesday.

Anaga mountains: Be prepared for surprise. Expect stunning views. Walk along quiet paths, decked with flowers like the Canarian Bell which hides its beauty in shade and under leaves. Bird lovers might see the splended kestrel or the tiny pippet.

Teno mountains: After a very scenic coastal journey you will arrive in the Teno mountains. Here a variety of landscape awaits you. This is the land of ghostly hamlets, volcanic tubes, dramatic scenery and breathtaking views.
Here, also, is the magnificent Masca Gorge. We climb UP the Gorge. The safest way to go. The boat journey is cerca 15 minutes. We land at Masca Bay and make the steady ascent through awe inspiring scenery. Many of our walkers have described this as the "best Gorge we've ever seen." (Click here to check dates we visit here)

Casa Castro - a piece of history

Teide National Park: "The nearest you will come to walking on the moon." Walk around at 7,000 feet. Expect to be overawed by the spectacle; size, shape and colour of the rocks. (check dates we visit here)

Orotava Valley: A beautiful alpine forest area with superb views from 4,000 feet down to the coast. We'll follow the pilgrim trail or wander pleasantly along hidden paths. Keep a look out for the clever robin who has found a warmer climate, tits or chiff-chaffs.

Remember...: There are coastal walks, laurel - and higher up - conifer forests, lava flow terrain and lunar landscapes in the Teide National Park, so expect variety. If you are used to looking forward to a day's ramble and enjoy meeting new people, then this is the group for you. In addition, you will experience:

How much does it cost?

Our rates are  £85 for four consecutive walks or £170 for eight consecutive walks. Masca Gorge is booked locally and the cost is 43€ per person. We request 15€ for the Sunday charity walk.

How do I book?

Contact us to check first that we have vacancies. We will hold your booking for a week whilst you reserve your package from your travel agent or flight if you are using the hotels we recommend. Whoever you book your holiday with, you must stay in Puerto de la Cruz to participate in KWA guided walks. We would recommend you always request a quiet room. Once that's completed, fill out our booking form and return it to us.
